THE NEW NORMAL

March 11th, 2020, the day the world stopped. COVID-19 is an infectious disease that was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China which spread globally and on March 11th the disease was declared a pandemic. The world went into lockdown, with the UK joining on March 23rd to help protect our NHS and key workers. Simple things such as visiting family members, going to Church and unnecessary driving are no longer allowed. All the things that we take for granted – banned. When looking out the window, the world seems normal but once outside, you realise how abnormal it really is. The New Normal explores the challenges we face and changes that have had to happen in order to keep the people we love as well as ourselves safe. “It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.” – Aristotle Although the world has stopped, nature continues to thrive despite all the madness. Many have found solitude within their gardens, now their only escape from the domestic environment. Light act as a response to The New Normal, representing hope and positivity within this dark time of our lives, if nature can continue, with all the damage caused to our planet, then we too can continue. This virus has separated people from their loved ones; however, people never been so connected. There are strangers helping strangers because family members are unable too. Support for our NHS and key workers has never been high. Although this virus has caused so much devastation, it has brought out the good in humanity. We will get through this together.
