SEAT

SEAT is a project based around finding a sense of place and belonging in a world where that can be extremely difficult. Growing up in Stranraer I found certain places helped maintain my mental health - the sea helps calm my thoughts, while forests help distract me - and these places are what constantly inspire and influence my work. This piece of work is both previsualisation and responsive - while my previous work tends to solely be responsive in nature, this series of work was planned and developed to help make it more authentic and create the sense of place by using metaphors and symbolism. The chair and the slippers represent finding that place that feels like home, a truly comfortable place. The surrounding landscapes represent several different things from, freedom to serenity to release. This is a place where breathing feels easier, the mind is instantly calm, and all negativity is gone. SEAT is a semi collaboration project about Galloway and is the result of Upland's Emerge Mentoring Programme.
