Wigtown Book Festival

3 Oct 2021

I photographed at the Wigtown Book Festival...

Back in September I was asked to do a photography project at the Wigtown Book Festival. Since Covid-19 had moved the 2020 festival online, the organisers where very keen to make sure this years event ran as smoothly as possible and to do this they decided to include an interactive area in the town centre gardens. The main feature was a huge screen so those who wanted to watch authors talk but either couldn't get tickets due to limited numbers or only wanted to mix outside, were still able to.

Because Covid-19 had changed the previous years festival, the organisers wanted to show how much they appreciated the people who had come to the festival and are the reason that the festival continues to be able to happen. The idea of the project was to photograph those who had stopped by the gardens to listen to authors talk, interact with certain activities or even just meet up with friends who they hadn't seen in a while and ask them some questions to find out why they had come to the festival that year, what they enjoy about it and if they were new to the festival, if they would come back in the future.

These photographs and quotes, made from their answers given to my questions, were then placed into a PowerPoint and displayed on the big screen during intermissions.
